Mad Man Moon – Genesis (1976) SACD Remaster FLAC 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Mad Man Moon” was released on Genesis’ seventh studio album, A Trick of the Tail, in February 1976. Hadn’t done any Genesis in a while, but happy to get around to finishing another old project from one of the albums from my favorite Genesis era. To my longtime friends; thanks for sticking around…and to new viewers of my channel…thanks for watching! πŸ™‚

A Trick of the Tail was the first album to feature drummer Phil Collins as lead vocalist, following Peter Gabriel’s departure.

The album was recorded at Relight Studios and mixed at Trident Studios in October/November 1975. It also marked the first album that the band would co-produce with David Hentschel. They would work with Hentschel for the n

A Trick of the Tail reached No.3 in the UK, remaining on the charts for 39 weeks, and No.31 in the US. Additionally, the album was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA in March 1990. Also according to Tony Banks in the essay that comes with Platinum Collection, the album doubled the band’s previous albums sales. This success was also financially crucial for Genesis who were $400,000 in debt by the time Peter Gabriel left.

This is the eighth video I’ve made for a Genesis song (and the third for a track from A Trick of the Tail..see “Ripples” https://youtu.be/iS6jt0ATanE & “Entangled” https://youtu.be/bqxEoPVEOOE. This video also features FLAC audio sourced from the 2007 SACD, absolutely the best way to hear this album …..other video links below lyrics.

Hope you enjoy the effort!

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible…THANK YOU!!!!!

[Lyrics]
Was it summer when the river ran dry,
Or was it just another dam.
When the evil of a snowflake in June
Could still be a source of relief.
O how I love you, I once cried long ago,
But I was the one who decided to go.
To search beyond the final crest,
Though I’d heard it said just birds could dwell so high.

So I pretended to have wings for my arms
And took off in the air.
I flew to places which the clouds never see,
Too close to the deserts of sand,
Where a thousand mirages, the shepherds of lies
Forced me to land and take a disguise.
I would welcome a horse’s kick to send me back
If I could find a horse not made of sand.

If this desert’s all there’ll ever be
Then tell me what becomes of me.
A fall of rain?
That must have been another of your dreams,
A dream of mad man moon.

Hey man,
I’m the sand man.
And boy have I news for you;
They’re gonna throw you in gaol
And you know they can’t fail
’cause sand is thicker than blood.
But a prison in sand
Is a haven in hell,
For a gaol can give you a goal
[and a] goal can find you a role
On a muddy pitch in Newcastle,
Where it rains so much
You can’t wait for a touch
Of sun and sand, sun and sand…

Within the valley of shadowless death
They pray for thunderclouds and rain,
But to the multitude who stand in the rain
Heaven is where the sun shines.
The grass will be greener till the stems turn to brown
And thoughts will fly higher till the earth brings them down.
Forever caught in desert lands one has to learn
To disbelieve the sea.

If this desert’s all there’ll ever be
Then tell me what becomes of me.
A fall of rain?
That must have been another of your dreams,
A dream of mad man moon.

4 tracks from Eric Clapton’s No Reason To Cry album (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC

4 of my favorite tracks from Eric Clapton’s fourth solo studio album, No Reason To Cry, which was released in August of 1976. This is my second favorite Eric Clapton album (after 1978’s Backless).

These videos will represent my very first in a new style series that I’ll be uploading (similar to the few other visual equalizer tracks I’ve done in past)….still working towards an interesting way for me to make quick uploads for the best audio sources of my favorite tracks from select albums using simple video templates…in-between my other video projects. I’ll try and cluster at least two from each album…maybe 3? Hope you enjoy the selections! Thanks for watching!

The album was recorded at The Band’s Shangri-la Studios in March 1976, and included involvement from all five members; Rick Danko shared vocals with Clapton on “All Our Past Times,” which he co-wrote with Clapton. The album also includes a duet with Bob Dylan on his otherwise unreleased song “Sign Language.” The booklet in Bob Dylan’s box set The Bootleg Series Volumes 1–3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961–1991 describes his involvement in this album: “Dylan dropped by and was just hanging out, living in a tent at the bottom of the garden. He would sneak into the studio to see what was going on. Dylan offered his new, unrecorded song “Seven Days” to Clapton. Clapton passed on it, but Ron Wood took him up on the offer and released it on his third solo album Gimme Some Neck”.The song “Innocent Times” is sung by Marcy Levy, who also shared vocals with Clapton on “Hungry.” Female vocals are also on many of the other songs. Yvonne Elliman, who is thanked on the back cover, sang on some of the songs too.

Hello Old Friend – Eric Clapton (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

[Lyrics]
As I am strolling down the garden path,
I saw a flower glowing in the dark.
It looked so pretty and it was unique;
I had to bend down just to have a peek.

Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.

I saw you walking underneath the stars;
I couldn’t stop ’cause I was in a car.
I’m sure the distance wouldn’t be too far
If I got out and walked to where you are.

Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.

An old man passed me on the street today;
I thought I knew him but I couldn’t say.
I stopped to think if I could place his frame.
When he tipped his hat I knew his name.

Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.

Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.

All Our Past Times – Eric Clapton (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

[Lyrics]
I don’t want to be the one to say I’m sorry.
I don’t want to be the one to take the blame.
I don’t want to be the one to throw it over.
I don’t want to be the one to feel ashamed.

I don’t want to be the one who thinks of nothing.
I don’t want to be the one to tell you what you have seen.
After all this time, well I thought that you were mine.
I just want to be the one who would share this dream.

All our past times should be forgotten.
All our past times should be erased.
I don’t care how much it costs;
Cause I don’t count the loss
As long as I can see your face again.

You don’t have to tell me when you’re leaving,
If it’s half past one, if it’s maybe four.
It makes no difference where you think you’re going,
But please remember not to slam the door.

Yes, I don’t care how much it costs;
You know I don’t count the loss
As long as I can see your face again.

Sign Language – Eric Clapton (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

[Lyrics]
You speak to me in sign language
As I’m eating a sandwich in a small cafe
At a quarter to three

But I can’t respond to your sign language
You’re taking advantage, bringing me down
Can’t you make any sound?

It was there by the bakery, surrounded by fakery
This is my story, still I’m still there
Does she know I still care?

Link Wray was playing on a jukebox, I was paying
For the words I was saying, so misunderstood
He didn’t do me no good

You speak to me in sign language
As I’m eating a sandwich in a small cafe
At a quarter to three

But I can’t respond to your sign language
You’re taking advantage, bringing me down
Can’t you make any sound?

Black Summer Rain – Eric Clapton (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

[Lyrics]
Where is the sun,
The sun that used to shine on me?
Where has it gone
Or is it just a memory?

I looked through the window,
Staring at the sky,
Waiting for a moment
That always passed me by.

Black summer rain,
Black summer rain,
Black summer rain is falling on me, girl.

Where is the love,
The love I need to set me free?
And how can I escape
This gloom that is swallowing me?

Black summer rain,
Black summer rain,
Black summer rain is falling on me, girl.

Black summer rain,
Black summer rain,
Black summer rain is falling on me, girl.

…and now we’re fine. Classic Klaatu from their first album, 3:47 EST (1976).

Doctor Marvello – Klaatu (1976) FLAC Audio HD Widescreen Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Doctor Marvello” was released on Canadian progressive rock group Klaatu’s first album 3:47 EST in August 1976. The album was renamed Klaatu when released in the United States by Capitol Records.

I’m a HUGE fan of Klaatu first two albums especially (yeah, I was completely caught up in the “it’s The Beatles secret record” when the first two records were released in the late seventies…how we all wanted to believe that at the time!!!), but their other albums are very nice as well. I have several videos started for some of their more epic tracks, but until those are ready (I’m working on them!)….here’s “Doctor Marvello”! Hope you enjoy this great track from an album loaded with great tracks.

***From what I remember about all the “clues” for the tracks which pointed to The Beatles; this one referred to their break up; (“Jonesey turned the tide..We lost our cool..Caught in whirlpools” and “So bland was our condition…We summoned black magicians..To wave a wand or two” etc.) and their “reunion” on this album (“We’re completely cured…and now we’re fine”).

3:47 EST is regarded as one of the band’s greatest albums (along with Hope), using the same kind of Beatlesque psychedelic rock (in the style of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour), with a few new additions; most notably vocal distortion, more backwards instruments, and some obscure musical instruments such as electric sitars. The Juno-nominated album cover was painted by a friend of Klaatu’s members, the Canadian graphic artist, Ted Jones.

For a variety of reasons, rumours spread in the wake of the album’s release that Klaatu were, in fact, a secretly reunited Beatles. The album was moderately successful in the United States, largely as a result of the Beatles rumours.

A high-quality newly remastered version of the album was released on Klaatu’s indie record label “Klaatunes” in 2011. To accompany this release, a music video was made for the remastered version of “Calling Occupants”.

[Lyrics]
Oh
My love and I were thinking
How low our boat was sinking
From fishing for the blues
Every lure we tried
Jonesey turned the tide
We lost our cool
Caught in whirlpools

Oh
So bland was our condition
We summoned black magicians
To wave a wand or two
Talismanic spells
Tannis root and well
To tell the tale
Their magic failed

If that is all you want
(Doctor Marvello)
Then I may be of service
If all you want is love
(Doctor Marvello)
Well I may know a special man
Whose love machine turns can’t to can
With your mind in mind
With your mind in mind

(A passage of time)
Oh
The trance wore off by morning
A sentimental journey was hazily recalled
Though it sounds absurd
We’re completely cured
And now we’re fine
And now we’re fine
And now we’re fine

The Revenge of Vera Gemini – Blue Oyster Cult (1976) 192KHz/24bit FLAC ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“The Revenge of Vera Gemini” was released on Blue Γ–yster Cult’s fourth studio album, Agents of Fortune, on May 21st 1976. This is one of my all time favorite albums and I love each song enough to make a video for them all….this is the third I’ve done for a track from the album. This song was co-written by Patti Smith (with Albert Bouchard) and I love her vocal contributions to the song!

The audio is sourced from a 192KHz/24bit FLAC….i think it sounds fantastic! I need to redo the two other videos I have made for tracks from Agents of Fortune to include these new versions. The video was from a poorer quality source, so I tried to do some things to remove the noise when it’s played full screen….it’s not entirely successful, but looks better than it would without the effects. It’s a very cool film (as detailed below).

The film in the video is edited from Harpya, a 1979 short Belgian animated film written and directed by Raoul Servais. It stars Will Spoor, Fran Waller Zeper and Sjoert Schwibethus. The film won the Palme d’Or for Best Short Film at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival. Its mix of horror and black comedy has given it a cult following.

Hope you enjoy the effort!

[Lyrics]
You’re boned like a saint
With the consciousness of a snake

You’re the kind of girl
I’d like to find
Face like an angel
But you’re boned like the devil

Your eyes have shifted from me
Everyone saw what you did
You have slipped from beneath me
Like a false and nervous squid

Oh no more horses horses
We’re gonna swim like a fish
Into the hole, in which you planned to ditch me
My lovely Vera Marie

You planned to leave me cold
But you’ll never get your wish
On the 24th of May
I’ll gather up your reins

You filled me with a vengeance
And you touched me with your breath
I’m gonna pull you from this dance
You’re gonna ride so easily

Oh no more horses horses
We’re gonna swim like a fish
Into the hole, in which you planned to ditch me
My lovely Vera Marie

I was your victim
I was well deceived
Hell’s built on regret
But I love your naked neck

And evil lies that you told me
Could make me believe your two-faced
Because two faces have you
And they’re both gonna go

Oh no more horses horses
We’re gonna swim like a fish
Into the hole, in which you planned to ditch me
My lovely Vera Gemini

From Bob Seger’s classic 1976 Night Moves album…”Ship of Fools”

Ship of Fools – Bob Seger (1976) FLAC Remaster HD Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Ship Of Fools” was released on the album Night Moves in October of 1976. The album was the ninth by Bob Seger, and his first with The Silver Bullet Band.

Although the front cover only credits backing by the Silver Bullet Band, four of the nine songs on the album feature backing by the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section…which i doubt anyone would doubt didn’t have the effect of taking an already great album up a notch or two.

I remember buying this album and listening to it back when it was released and it was such a stand-out then because I was listening to mostly prog and hard rock during that period…and it was just such a beautiful sounding, soulful record…it was one of the records that pretty much stayed standing up next to my turntable (I waxed way poetic on that turntable in the description for my “Night Moves” video already! LOL!) for many months, because I played it so frequently. It’s a very special record to me and I love it still.

This is my second video for a track from the album (the first being something I tried for “Night Moves”…which i think is pretty awful now….I really need to remake that one! Yikes!!!!) I actually made the main effect (couple of variations of the ship lights over the album cover) around the time I made the “Night Moves” video, but I stopped working on the video for “Ship of Fools” because I found that is was blocked pretty much everywhere, so those clips sat around without a video to fill them out until I was thrilled to find out a couple months back that it was being allowed to play, so I set about finishing this video. Night Moves is one of those albums that I could easily be inspired to make a video for every single song. I hope you enjoy this one and thanks for watching!

Popular music critic Robert Christgau wrote that the riffs on Night Moves are classic rock and roll riffs, like those performed by Chuck Berry or the Rolling Stones, and that the album is about rock and roll for those who are no longer in their teens, like the song “Rock and Roll Never Forgets”.

The Rolling Stone review of the album by Kit Rachlis stated that the album is one of the best to come out of 1976-77, that Seger sounds like Rod Stewart and writes lyrics like Bruce Springsteen, and that album is classic rock and roll. The only problem that Rachlis had with the album was the production not being strong enough. A later review of the album by Stephen Thomas Erlewine for Allmusic says that the album was very similar to Beautiful Loser, but Night Moves is harder than Beautiful Loser. Erlewine also feels that the album has a wide range of styles and has not lost any of its influence years later.

The album was well received by critics and gave Bob Seger nationwide success. Three singles were released from the album, with two of them making the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album became Seger’s second to become certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America and was his first to be certified platinum by the same association. It later achieved a certification of sextuple platinum.

“Tell me quick” said Old McFee
“What’s this all have to do with me?”
“I’ve spent all my time at sea a loner.”

“Is there something else I should know?”
“Something hidden down below the level of your conversation?”
Well he turned away before the answer
Though I yelled aloud he refused to hear
It became to clear
So it went as we put out
I was left in constant doubt
Everything I asked about seemed private

The captain strolled the bridge one night
I stopped him in the evening light
To ask him would it be all right to join him

But he stood there like some idol
And he listened like some temple
And then he turned away

All along the fateful coast
We moved silent like a ghost
The timeless sea of tireless host possessed us
The wind came building from the cold northwest
And soon the waves began to crest
Crashing cross the forward deck
All hands lost

I alone survived the sinking
I alone possessed the tools
On that ship of fools

Summer – War (1976) 2014 FLAC Remaster HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Summer” was released as a single from their greatest hits album in the late spring of 1976. It was released as a single from their greatest hits album in 1976. “Summer” peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart, number four on the R&B chart. The track peaked at number one on the Easy Listening chart and was one of three entries to make the chart. The greatest hits album from which this single came was one of the records that I remember EVERYONE owned, on LP, 8-track, cassette….it was a staple for years. (Albums don’t really live like this anymore do they? Now they’re huge for a couple months and then basically vanished from the face of the earth?! πŸ˜‰ Sad. The music all seems so disposable, such a short life-span, whereas our music was around for many years. Maybe it’s just me being nostalgic and sentimental.

Growing up in South Texas we probably listened to more than our fair share of War back in the day (they even wrote a song titled “Southern Part of Texas” on their Deliver the Word album!). This band could lock into a monster groove like few others really could, and “Summer” is the band’s perfectly brilliant and hypnotic stroll through a long, lazy summer day.

I’m so thankful I grew up in the time when there were 8-tracks and CB radios (these activities took more of a group effort; you had to spool the 8-track now and then and stick matches under the cartridge to get it to sound right and for the CB, we needed someone to operate the radio and everyone else to think of stupid things to say!!! LOL!)….in a time when we all interacted with each other more than we did our cell phones. Great times and great music!

Lots of great pics in this one, so AS USUAL HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible….THANK YOU….and thank YOU for watching! πŸ™‚ For War fans….more by this band a bit further down the road.

The audio for this video was sourced from the 2014 remaster for the band’s new album Evolutionary (which included Greatest Hits remastered)….and trust me, these classics have never sound so great. Buy it….you won’t be disappointed.

One more thing….where are all the lowriders? I think I know what happened….these guys used to work their rides themselves…these new kids can’t even change a tire!? LOL! Peace sign!

Alice Cooper – Go To Hell (1976)

Go To Hell – Alice Cooper (1976) Remastered Audio

Help I’ve fallen into 1976 and I can’t get out! πŸ˜‰ “Go To Hell” the opening track from Alice Cooper’s ninth studio album Goes To Hell, which was released in the summer of 1976. Wow, three videos from songs released in 1976 in a row….and I’d be happy to video about 500 more….such a great year for music!

Goes To Hell was a continuation of his previous album (Welcome to My Nightmare) as it continues the story of Steven, this concept album was written almost exclusively by Cooper with guitar player Dick Wagner and producer Bob Ezrin.

Welcome To My Nightmare and Goes To Hell were two HUGE sounding records, the production is just seriously epic…..Bob Ezrin is a genius at getting monster sound…one of the all time greats….he has produced many of my favorite records, especially Catherine Wheel’s Adam and Eve (1997), and that little Pink Floyd thing from 1979! πŸ˜‰

I wanted to vid some Alice Cooper since the beginning of starting this hobby, but there were some things in the way….it’s fun to play around with his tracks, because they are all so damn theatrical! My original concept was a bunch of horror scenes edited similar to what I did for “I’m Your Boogie Man” http://youtu.be/M8XxTvaw5R0 …but decided to do something different. I couldn’t resist doing one of the extended openings to the video (The Bad Seed….endlessly re-watchable and jam packed with memorable quotes, and some wicked-brilliant performances from (especially) Eileen Heckart, Henry Jones…and yeah Rhoda (Patty McCormack)…I remember some years ago they were doing a remake of The Bad Seed, and I thought “WHY”? πŸ˜‰ My tracking in the big zoom shot in the beginning is crap and I really needed to redo it…I’ve never really been able to master this technique…anyone with any tips…HELP! πŸ˜‰

And a kinda weird coincidence!?! So, in researching the album for the video description I was very surprised to learn two things; first that Dick Wagner had just passed away a couple of months ago, and second, that he co-written one (“Shine Silently”) of two Nils Lofgren songs that I had just begun to work up videos up for! ….it was just wow!….anyway, a very talented songwriter and excellent guitarist!!!!

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible….THANK YOU!!!!!!

For criminal acts and violence on the stage
For bein’ a brat, refusin’ to act your age
For all of the decent citizens you’ve enraged
You can go to hell

For gamblin’ and drinkin’ alcohol constantly
For makin’ us doubt our parents authority
For choosin’ to be a living obscenity
You can go to hell

You’re something that never should have happened
You even make your grandma sick

You’d poison a blind man’s dog and steal his cane
You’d gift-wrap a leper and mail him to your aunt Jane
You’d even force-feed a diabetic a candy cane
You can go to hell

You’re something that never should have happened
You even make your grandma sick

For criminal acts and violence on the stage
For bein’ a brat, refusin’ to act your age
For all of the decent citizens you’ve enraged
You can go to hell
