And you know I wish you well these days

Going To The Top – John Waite (1982) FLAC Remaster 1080p HD Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Going To The Top” was released on John Waite’s solo debut album Ignition, in June of 1982. John Waite was the lead singer for one of my favorite bands of the late 70’s (The Babys) and though his solo stuff never matched the music The Baby’s produced (it lacked the hard rocking elegance and glam of that band), there are quite a few wonderful songs scattered through his string of solo albums….I think “Going To The Top” is one of his best.

I’m in the process of digging up some of the unfinished sequences for videos I’ve started for some of my favorite songs by The Babys (I did finish a video for “A Piece of the Action”)

and plugging some of the them into the equalizer format video to see what happens. I’ve been falling back on that style video more frequently since it allows me to just lay some effects over the foundation video. Several months back I’d edited and applied gradient color to a few clips from That’s Entertainment….just looking for a good video fit, the seemed to work best with this tune. I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching!

Ignition was released on Chrysalis Records and produced by Neil Giraldo (producer/guitarist for Pat Benatar, who was on the same label).

Two singles were lifted from the record: the Holly Knight-penned “Change” which initially failed to make a significant dent on any chart except for the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, where it scored the #16 position. It was, however, one of MTV’s most popular early videos. Upon the 1985 release of the soundtrack to the movie Vision Quest, the single was re-issued and broke into the Top 50 on the Pop charts. Its follow-up single was “Going to the Top”.

A few famous musicians guested on the album as well. Singer Patty Smyth (then in the band Scandal) handled vocal backing, and drummer Frankie LaRocka (also from Scandal) and bassist Don Nossov (who also played with Benatar) guest here.

[Lyrics]
Saw you standing in the darkness
With your back against the wall
And your eyes looked kind of distant
Then I knew you’d seen it all
It was then that you betrayed me
Cause I could see right through your gaze
I guess you and I have seen much better days
You used to be so taken
With the lifestyle of the king
Now you find love’s everything
You’re going to the top
You found somebody special
Now your heart will never stop
And you know I wish you well
You could of been somebody a contender
I guess that chance just passed you by
Now you can’t remember who to trust
But I sure wish that you’d try
And nothing gets you nothing
And you get back what you give
You can’t hold out much longer
It’s time for you to live
You used to be so taken
With the lifestyle of the king
Now you find love’s everything
You’re going to the top
You found somebody special
Now your heart will never stop
And you know I wish you well yeah
You’re going to the top
You’re falling up to heaven
And now your heart will never stop
And you know I wish you well yeah
Good things are gonna find you
Though somebody’s got to pay
You could always turn your back and walk
But I sure wish that you’d stay
You’re going to the top
You found somebody special
Now your heart will never stop
And you know I wish you well these days
You’re going to the top
You’re falling up to heaven
And your heart ain’t gonna stop
And you know I wish you well these days
You’re going to the top
You found somebody special
And your heart will never stop
And you know I wish you well these days
You’re going to the top
And now you’re someone special
And I still think of you a lot
And you know I wish you well
Yeah

3 Deep Tracks from Loverboy’s 1st

Always On My Mind – Loverboy (1980) FLAC Remaster 1080 HD Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Always On My Mind” was released in November 1980 on Loverboy’s debut, self-titled album. This record was a monster favorite from my very first semester of college….it seemed like it was playing in ever dorm room and every party that was had for several months! It was just a brilliant, fresh sounding, rocking set of songs. Their next album was almost, but not quite as great as this one IMO, but Loverboy was a formidable force back in their heyday….Mike Reno was a great singer and lead guitarist Paul Dean could really play!

I’ve had this go-go girl clip in my still stalled vid for BOC’s “Before the Kiss, a Redcap” video that is pretty wild n cool, and almost finished…though I try not to repeat clips too much too closely, but she worked perfect in this song so I couldn’t resist.

I think I’m going to do a couple/few quick equalizer vids from their first couple albums today….if you like Loverboy, thank the weather…if you hate Loverboy, blame the weather….cause I’m stuck in the house today. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I knew her since high school
We were seventeen
I was old enough to know
She was old enough to dream

I try to remember, bring back memories
And you know that she is always on my mind

She knew what I needed
Never let me down
She was always the last to leave
And the first to come around
I try to remember, bring back memories
And you know that she is always on my mind

Always on my mind
She’s driving me crazy
Always on my mind
And you know that she is always on my mind

Every night in my dreams I still see her face
Thought she gave it all for me
She only gave me a taste
Every time I see her, it comes back to me
And you know that she’s always on my mind

Always on my mind
She’s driving me crazy
Always on my mind
And you know
Yes you know
Yes you know

Ooo, yeah

Always on my mind
She’s driving me crazy
Always on my mind
And you know that she is always on my mind

Always on my mind
She’s driving me crazy
Always on my mind
And you know
Yes you know
Yes you know

Always on my mind

I wrote a letter to a private eye
A missing person or a runaway
You’ll never find her in the U.S.A
All they got down here is liberty
Talked to her brother down in Frisco Bay
He ain’t seen nothin’ there but silicone
I called her mommy up on Ozone Way
She wouldn’t put her on the telephone

Why won’t she see me?
She’s not looking well
Some girls just like to push thier luck until they wind up
D.O.A
D.O.A
D.O.A

I paid a visit to her Dr. J
He thought it might have been her chromosome
So he put blue jeans in her DNA
I guess that’s why she’s not coming home
Spend all my money on her luxuries
I guess i’ll need a bigger salary
Her lonely life is such a mystery
I keep her picture in my gallery

Why won’t she see me?
She’s not looking well
Some girls just like to push thier luck until they wind up
D.O.A
D.O.A
D.O.A

Talked to her brother down in Frisco Bay
He ain’t seen nothin’ there but silicone
I called her mommy up on Ozone Way

Why won’t she see me?
She’s not looking well
Some girls just like to push their luck until they wind up

[Lyrics]
If you can read between the lines
Then you can tell me what my next move will be
It’s just a matter of time before the whole wide world will see

And when you tell me that I’m wrong
In the morning, I’ll be gone
And if you’ve heard it all before
Then it just don’t matter no more

Why don’t you tell me what you’re after?
Why don’t you say what’s on your mind?
How will you feel the morning after,
When all there is is what I’ve left behind?

And when you tell me that I’m wrong
In the morning, I’ll be gone
And if you’ve heard it all before
Then it just don’t matter no more

It don’t matter no more
It don’t matter, matter to me
It don’t matter no more
Ooo-ooh-hoo

And when you tell me that I’m wrong
In the morning, I’ll be gone
And if you’ve heard it all before
Well, it just don’t matter no more

Why don’t you tell me what you’re after?
Why don’t you say what’s on your mind?
How will you feel the morning after,
When all there is is what I’ve left behind?

‘Cause when you tell me that I’m wrong
In the morning, I’ll be gone
And if you’ve heard it all before
Well, it just don’t matter no more

It don’t matter no more
It don’t matter
It don’t matter
It don’t matter no more
Ooo-ooh-hoo
It don’t matter no more
It don’t matter, matter to me
It don’t matter no more
It don’t matter
It don’t matter
It don’t matter no more
Look around, baby
It don’t matter no more
Ooo-ooh-hoo, hey

Read between the lines
Read what’s on my mind

Don’t matter, don’t matter, don’t matter to me
It don’t matter, it don’t matter to me, to me
Ooo-ooo-ooo, ooo-ooo

Read between the lines
A-doo-ba-da-wa-doo-way
Doo-bah, doo-bah, day
Hey, hey, hey
Don’t matter to me, don’t matter to me
Don’t matter to me what they say
What they say
Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo

Seasons – Grace Slick (1980)

Seasons – Grace Slick (1980) FLAC Audio 1080p HD Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Seasons” was released in March of 1980 on Grace Slick’s second solo album, Dreams. This was one of the albums that I turned onto during my years working at a record store in the early ’80s….most of my paycheck back in those days went to albums of course! ๐Ÿ˜‰ For some reason lately I’ve been feeling very Russianish?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ and wanted to do a lil sumphin for the homela…I mean Mother Russia! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ะ—ะดั€ะฐะฒัั‚ะฒัƒะนั‚ะต!!!! ะขั€ะฐะผะฟ ัะพัะตั‚!!!

There were two standout songs on this record that I played to death back then and that I’m still really fond of, and I already made a video quite awhile back for the other one (the title track “Dreams” https://youtu.be/OsP2N_09XD0 I’d like to update that video with higher quality audio and some video adjustments….tone it back a bit, but it’s not one of my worst early offenders. This vid was started as an equalizer style…I realized about half-way through that I should have given it a full concept vid so I would have had room for more layers/effects….but it was going to be too much trouble to break it all out so I just crammed all that I could and hoped for the best….I found some more interesting things and I’ll regret not getting them in….oh well, hope you enjoy it anyway. THANKS FOR WATCHING!

(From AllMusic.com) Less controversially titled than 1973’s Manhole, Grace Slick’s second solo album is an inconsistent, erratic, yet often compelling collection. Written in the aftermath of an extended Alcoholics Anonymous stay, Slick’s self-penned tunes revisit themes of self-reflection and atonement. As a result, her lyrics are far less obtuse, more accessible than usual, even becoming downright obvious on “Do It the Hard Way.” It’s a letdown for someone accustomed to her more poetic and challenging musings on previous Jefferson Airplane/Starship records. Musically the album is far less focused, with the subpar up-tempo track “Angel of Night” foretelling the vapid arena rock that would comprise her next solo album, Welcome to the Wrecking Ball. There are, however, several strong moments, such as the flamenco-styled “El Diablo” and the strong guitar work of Scott Zito on the sweeping “Full Moon Man.” Most curious of the bunch, though, are the album-opening title track and the Slick-authored “Seasons”: both surge on mock-whimsical melodies straight out of a haunted Biergarten, a side of Slick rarely seen before or since. Also new to her repertoire is the addition of orchestration on some tracks, ably arranged on the remarkable closer “Garden of Man” by Ron Frangipane. While her voice is not up to par on this record (there’s a distinct husk and gasp on the album-opening title track in particular), Dreams is a useful acquisition for Grace Slick completists and listeners engrossed by the life and personality of its creator.

[Lyrics]
When the winter comes the sun is low upon the fields
The sky is cold and it throws down icy snow
The lakes are glass the rivers all a frozen mass
The trees are bare and the northwind blows the air

But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring
When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings

Then the sun comes high and the spring rains come and go
The summer air so hot it melts the Russian snow
The fields are brown there’s no rain to make them grow
And the old ones sigh, the heat has made them tired and slow

But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring
When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings
The children dance and sing as if the time were spring
When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings

September leaves are falling through the autumn haze
And the school bells tell everyone there’ll be no more summer days
Warm nights are gone, all the leaves are turning brown
Then the windows close again when the winter comes around

But the children dance and sing as if the time were spring
When the seasons change everything they find a joy in what it brings
So I will laugh and dance and watch the children sing
Then I will have the chance of finding joy in everything
