Hotel California – The Eagles (1976) 24bit FLAC Remaster HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

Hotel California was released by The Eagles on their fifth studio album, Hotel California, in the winter of 1976. Writing credits for the song are shared by Don Felder (music), Don Henley, and Glenn Frey (lyrics). The Eagles’ original recording of the song features Henley singing the lead vocals and concludes with an extended section of electric guitar interplay between Felder and Joe Walsh.

The song is considered the most famous recording of the band, and its long guitar coda has been voted the best guitar solo of all time. The song was awarded the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1978. The lyrics of the song have been given various interpretations by fans and critics alike, the Eagles themselves described the song as their “interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles”. In the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles, Henley said that the song was about “a journey from innocence to experience…that’s all”.

This is a video update to correct my oft pointed out transgression of not using video footage featuring the original guitarist Don Felder. I was tempted to go full-on American Horror Story but too far in that direction would shift focus…still I couldn’t resist putting Sarah Paulson into it….the greatest thing about American Horror Story and one of the best actresses I’ve ever seen. This one includes true lossless audio source where the other was compressed…you may notice quite a difference in sound, especially on good headphones (we’ve spoken about this?! LOL!).

This album brings back very special memories for me of my high school year, and so I wanted to dedicate the effort to my classmates from my old high school in Texas.

After spending quite a bit of time searching, the best “Hotel Californiaish” hotel I could find to work with wasn’t a hotel at all…it’s Stetson Law University in Florida!

[Lyrics]
On a dark desert highway,
Cool wind in my hair,
Warm smell of “colitas”
Rising up through the air,
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light,
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim,
I had to stop for the night.

There she stood in the doorway,
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinkin’ to myself :
“This could be heaven and this could be hell”
Then she lit up a candle,
And she showed me the way,
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel California,
Such a lovely place, (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California,
Any time of year, (Any time of year) You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted,
She got the Mercedes BENZ
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard,
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember,
Some dance to forget

So I called up the Captain
“Please bring me my wine”
He said, “We haven’t had that spirit here
Since nineteen sixty-nine”
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say:

Welcome to the Hotel California,
Such a lovely place, (Such a lovely place) Such a lovely face
They’re livin’ it up at the Hotel California,
What a nice surprise, (What a nice surprise) Bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice, and she said:
“We are all just prisoners here,
Of our own device”
And in the master’s chambers
They gathered for the feast,
They stabbed it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was running for the door,
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before,
“Relax,” said the night man, “We are programmed to receive,
You can check out anytime you like… but you can never leave”

(Guitar Solo Until End)

Spread your little wings and fly away

Spread Your Wings – Queen (1977) Audiophile 96kHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Spread Your Wings” was released on Queen’s sixth studio album, News of the World, in October of 1977. This album contained the hit songs “We Will Rock You”, “We Are the Champions” and “Spread Your Wings”, it went 4x platinum in the United States, and achieved high certifications around the world, selling over 6 million copies. News of the World is Queen’s highest selling studio-album to date.

“Spread Your Wings” was written by bassist John Deacon. The piano is played by Mercury, although Deacon mimes it in the music video. The video was filmed at Taylor’s house at that time in his backyard, when the weather was freezing, and the band were performing in the snow. Mercury can be seen wearing star-shaped sunglasses in the video. May is seen playing a copy of his Red Special due to the cold weather conditions. Also, Taylor can be seen singing in the video despite the fact that there are no backing vocals in the song. It was the first Queen single without harmony vocals.

I pulled up three Queen promo videos to play around with and maybe work up, I decided to do “Bohemian Rhapsody” (my last upload) and didn’t plan on anything with the other two….now it looks like they all may all make it into new videos for my channel…well, one for sure! 😉 This is a really great Queen song that could never quite bear the weight of the two epic hugely popular tracks released as a single before it. Although it made it to #34 on UK charts, I guess it didn’t chart over here in the US, at least I never remember hearing a single for it being played.

Thanks for watching!

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone whose art made this new art possible…..THANK YOU!!!

[Lyrics]
Sammy was low
Just watching the show
Over and over again
Knew it was time
He’d made up his mind
To leave his dead life behind
His boss said to him
Boy you’d better begin
To get those crazy notions right out of your head
Sammy who do you think that you are
You should’ve been sweeping up the Emerald bar

Spread your wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Pull yourself together
‘Cause you know you should do better
That’s because you’re a free man

He spends his evenings alone in his hotel room
Keeping his thoughts to himself he’d be leaving soon
Wishing he was miles and miles away
Nothing in this world nothing would make him stay

Since he was small
Had no luck at all
Nothing came easy to him
Now it was time
He’d made up his mind
This could be my last chance

His boss said to him now listen boy
You’re always dreaming
You’ve got no real ambition you won’t get very far
Sammy boy don’t you know who you are
Why can’t you be happy at the Emerald bar

So honey
Spread your wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Pull yourself together
‘Cause you know you should do better
That’s because you’re a free man
Come on honey

“Nothing really matters nothing really matters to me”

Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen (1975) Audiophile 96kHz/24bit FLAC HD 1080p Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Bohemian Rhapsody” was released on Queen’s fourth studio album, A Night At The Opera, on November 21, 1975.

More description later, maybe….what’s there to say about this one really?! LOL! If you were around in 1975 you know this song RULED the airwaves for years…still a very popular song and we’ll all probably enjoy it as much the 2nd million listens as we did the first!? 😉 One thing though….really important too! If you’ve never heard this track (or really any of your other favorite rock tracks!) through a good set of headphones?….well, it’s fine if you realize that you’ve never REALLY heard the tune….these songs will be a revelation to you if you’ve never heard them properly! Go out and spend some $$$ on a nice set of headphones…not shitty earbuds….the music lover in you deserves the treat! Life is short…don’t miss out. 🙂

This was another really quick video that came about because I’m frustrated with so many other things I’m working on which are stuck for one reason or another. Jumped in and didn’t think about it too much…just wanted to get something out this week. I always hoped to so something pretty cool for this song, but this will have to do. The main attraction for this video is that it’s using a really high quality audio source track. I hope you enjoy the effort and as always…..THANKS FOR WATCHING!

[Lyrics]
Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I’m easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me, to me

Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away
Mama, ooo
Didn’t mean to make you cry
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body’s aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I’ve got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, ooo (anyway the wind blows)
I don’t want to die
I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo, Gallileo,
Gallileo Figaro – magnifico

But I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go will you let me go
Bismillah! No we will not let you go – let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go – let him go
Bismillah! We will not let you go let me go
Will not let you go let me go (never)
Never let you go let me go
Never let me go ooo
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me
For me
For me

So you think you can stop me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby can’t do this to me baby
Just gotta get out just gotta get right outta here

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters nothing really matters to me

Anyway the wind blows

“Impenetrable I can’t get inside of it no…”

Impenetrable – Graham Parker (1996) FLAC Audio HD Video ~MetalGuruMessiah~

“Impenetrable” was released in September 1996 on Graham Parker’s 14th studio album, Acid Bubblegum. Nothing more to say about Graham Parker that I’ve not already said…he’s one on my top 20 artists and I listen to his catalog very frequently….he’s yet to release an album that I haven’t loved.

“Impenetrable” was one of my favorite songs from Acid Bubblegum…there are a couple more from it I’d like to get around to. All Graham Parker’s albums are strong and have at least a few songs that I count among my favorite of his catalog.

This video was another quickie using an audio spectrum effect from the track…this time over Graham’s sunglasses (bummed because I originally had the left lens picking up only the (really cool) bass playing, but I somehow lost it before rendering. The image I used of Graham was pretty low-res and I had to really lay on the blur to lose the jaggies…there are numerous other photos of Graham in sunglasses, but this one was the one I really wanted to use for the effect.

Play Graham’s music loud and play it often and if you’re not already a fan…get read to become one! 😉 Thanks to all for watching!

[Lyrics]
I’m in a trailer with some white trash.
They’re drinkin’ beer and smokin’ grass
There’s a dumb chick with peroxide hair.
She’s got Axl Rose tattooed on her ass
They’re holding me up like a trophy in a hall
Like a deer skin or a bear’s head they bought from the mall
I act like I’m with them but I’m behind a wall
Behind a wall in the darkness
[Chorus:]

Impenetrable
I ca – ah – ah – ah – an’t
Impenetrable
I wake up in a foreign bed.
The hotel is empty the porters are dead
The maids are diseased but the manager said:
I’ll buy you a drink in the bar pal
Because you’re our last customer. You’re our last hope
The city’s deserted, the Government’s broke
I act like I’m with him but I’m ready to bolt
Out through the door into the darkness
[Chorus]
Out in the darkness the New Year’s crowd howl
It’s the same celebration for 20 years now
I found myself there once alone in a crowd
And the rules haven’t changed for a minute
They’re hoisting an effigy up on a pole
It’s someone I remember, it’s someone I know
I can’t place the face but when the gasoline flows
I feel the flames lick round my ankles
[Chorus]

Born To Lose – UFO (1978)

Born To Lose – UFO (1978) FLAC Remaster 1080p Video

“Born To Lose” was released in June of 1978 on UFO’s seventh studio album, Obsession. This was the final studio album to feature guitarist Michael Schenker. UFO has produced so many beautiful ballads through the years, easily they have more that I love than any other hard rock band…..and this is one.

Been crazy busy lately so not much time for video work…but didn’t want to be gone for too long so….how ’bout a quick one!? 😉 Quickly dusted off one of my several of my old unfinished UFO videos and made this thing for it…cheated a bit and plugged stuff from my last two UFO vids (“Take It Or Leave It” & “Belladonna”), but the job is done. Hope you enjoy it….it’s another of my favorite UFO ballads….they have many. Hope to get some more of the UFO vids up soon. Thanks for watching!

As Usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible….THANK YOU!!!!

[Lyrics]
Wonder if you belong, think you’ve got it down
Does it still feel the same, now that he’s not around

Born to lose, Born to lose, make your mind up no fooling round
Now that I know, I could never be, I would never be the only one.

Wonder how it all began, as if that mattered anyway
There’s someone else you’re always wanting, every single day

Born to lose, born to lose, make your mind up no fooling round,
Now that I know, I could never be, I would never be the only one.

[Instrumental]

Born to lose, Born to lose, make your mind up no fooling ’round
Now that I know, I could never be, I would never be the only one.

Time waits for no one at all…….No, not even you

Driftwood – The Moody Blues (1978) Remastered FLAC HD Video

“Driftwood” was released on The Moody Blues’ ninth album, Octave, in June of 1978. Some recent comments on my other videos (in particular, an especially passionate one from possibly an even greater fan of the album than myself!….this video dedicated to that insanely dedicated fan!) from this album have resulted in the completion of this one being expedited….awesome to hear from fans that share love for the stuff you love?! 🙂

This is the third Moody Blues track I’ve made a video for, and the third from Octave….my very favorite Moody Blues album and one of my top albums of 1978. I’ve spoken about my love for this record on the other videos (“Steppin’ In A Slide Zone” & “The Day We Meet Again”) so I won’t say much more about it, only to repeat that it is truly an exceptional effort by the group. Still a couple of tracks to do from this record and then I can happily move on to some favorite tracks from non-Octave Moody Blues albums! 😉

This video uses the promo video (which was created for the 3:57 minute single version that lacks the wonderful, long instrumental section before the song’s end) and features video effects to make it look better in 1080p….also stretching it with edits and effects to fill the full 5:03 minute album version The audio source is lossless flac remastered version released on the “Timeless Flight” box from 2013.

Interesting to note that the promotional video features Patrick Moraz on the keyboards, although Mike Pinder is playing the keyboards in the actual recording. The song also includes an alto saxophone which is played by session musician R.A. Martin, although Ray Thomas is depicted playing the alto saxophone in the video.

As always HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible….THANK YOU!!!! Hope YOU enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

[Lyrics]
Just like the driftwood of a dream
Left on the seashore of sleep
Just like the words that wouldn’t rhyme
Lost in the desert of time

Time waits for no one at all
No, not even you
You thought you’d seen it all before
You really thought you knew

I don’t remember what was said
In the confusion that night
I only know what’s on my mind
What’s in the future, we will decide

Time waits for no one at all
No, not even you
You thought you’d seen it all before
You really thought you knew

I’ve shattered the illusion of fortune and of fame
But darling, now I know you
Life could never be the same
Oh no, don’t leave me driftwood on the shore

Time waits for no one my love
No, not even you
You thought you’d seen it all before
You really thought you knew

I’ve shattered the illusion of fortune and of fame
I’m waking up, I’m reaching up
I’m getting up from this game
Oh no, don’t leave me driftwood on the shore

Oh no, don’t, don’t leave me driftwood on the shore
Oh no, don’t, don’t leave me driftwood on the shore

“The wind in the trees is sighing… And old England is dying”

Old England – The Waterboys (1985) FLAC Remaster HD 1080p Video

“Old England” was released on The Waterboys’ third studio album, This Is The Sea, in September of 1985. This is probably tied with the title track as my favorite song on the album….definitely top ten of all their songs!

This Is The Sea is the last of the band’s “Big Music” albums. Considered by critics to be the finest album of their early rock-oriented sound, described as “epic” and “a defining moment”, it was the first Waterboys album to enter the United Kingdom charts, peaking at number thirty-seven. Steve Wickham makes his Waterboys recording debut playing violin on ‘The Pan Within’ and subsequently joined the band, appearing on the video of “The Whole Of The Moon”. This Is the Sea is the last album with contributions from Karl Wallinger, who left the group to form his own band, World Party.

Mike Scott, the album’s principal songwriter and leader of The Waterboys, describes This Is the Sea as “the record on which I achieved all my youthful musical ambitions”, “the final, fully realised expression of the early Waterboys sound”, influenced by The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, and Steve Reich.

A remastered and expanded version was released in 2004. This Is the Sea contains the best-selling Waterboys single, the song “The Whole of the Moon”. The album cover is a photograph taken by Lynn Goldsmith.

“Old England” is a criticism of Thatcherism, blaming Margaret Thatcher’s economic policies for what Scott perceived to be an increase in desperation amongst the young and poor in the England of that time, and a rise in drug addiction, specifically to heroin. The refrain, “Old England is dying” is a quote from James Joyce, and the lines “You’re asking what makes me sigh now / What it is makes me shudder so” are from W.B. Yeats’ poem, “Mad as the Mist and Snow”. The Clash, one of the bands that had inspired Scott during his punk music phase, released “This Is England”, a song with a similar theme, as a single the same year. Scott and The Waterboys would move to Ireland the following year.

This is another video I started years ago and am finally getting around to finishing up. I always hoped to use some footage Terrance Davis’ brilliant, beautiful and poetic film of his youth in (and the historical transformation of) Liverpool, England. However, I never really liked the way it was looking for the video though, so I started doing what I did best back in the early days, lots of masks using clouds and assorted layers of historical images from England’s past, and skipped most of the footage I had from the film….but it was never quite finished and eventually I realized it was crap. So, for the last couple months I tried some things with it and finally found something that I though looked pretty nice….almost all the old stuff (Victoria, the man and the sunset early on are still in but don’t really fit the rest of the thing….I probably should have lost ’em!)….I really liked the effects I was able to get with the newer footage to match the look of the clips from the film. BTW…..if you haven’t seen “Of Time And The City” you really should watch it, this video contains only a few minutes of this masterpiece and there is so much more to see!

This is my sixth video for a track from The Waterboys…one of those bands that I really love making vids for! Hope you enjoy it….thanks for watching!

[Lyrics]
A man looks up on a yellow sky
And the rain turns to rust in his eye
Rumors of his health are lies
Old England is dying

His clothes are a dirty shade of blue
And his ancient shoes, worn through
He steals from me and he lies to you
Old England is dying

Still he sings an Empire’s song
Still he keeps his navy strong
And he sticks his flag where it all belongs
Old England is dying

You’re asking what makes me sigh now
What it is makes me shudder so
Well, I just freeze in the wind
And I’m numb from the pummeling of the snow

That falls from high in yellow skies
Where the well loved flag of England flies
Where the homes are warm and the mothers sigh
Where comedians laugh and babies cry

Where criminals are televised, politicians fraternized
Journalists are dignified and everyone is civilized
And children stare with heroin eyes, heroin eyes, heroin eyes
Old England, old England, old England is dying, dying

Evening has fallen, swans are singing
The last of Sunday’s bells is ringing
The wind in the trees is sighing
And old England is dying
