Jolie Jolie – Graham Parker (1980) Remastered HQ Audio HD Video

“Jolie Jolie” was released on Graham Parker’s fifth album, The Up Escalator, in the spring of 1980. During my first year of college, one weekend as one of my dorm suite-mates was getting ready to head home for the weekend, he threw a cassette at me and (knowing my love for music and that I worked at the record store) said something to the effect of; “i bought this cassette, but it’s shit…i don’t want it…..you can have it if you want”. I looked down into my hands to see a brand-new cassette, Graham Parker’s Squeezing Out Sparks. It only took a single listen for me to become a serious Graham Parker fan for life! I probably bought the vinyl within a day or so (as my medium of choice) and then spent the next couple of months searching out his earlier albums (his first two albums, Howling Wind & Heat Treatment are indisputable masterpieces) and remember the thrill of finding his next record (The Up Escalator) when I opened a box of newly shipped records at the record store.

Graham Parker remains in my top 20 artists of all time (lyrically he’s top 10), I have purchased every album that he ever released, and I can honestly say that he hasn’t made a single record that I don’t love. His music has been a huge part of my life and I listen to his stuff all the time…..and as such it’s unusual that this is only my second video (after a very early “Waiting For The UFO’s”

…..though I do have many started, yet unfinished videos for his tracks scattered around. I hope to get around to some more of my favorite Graham Parker tracks….in the meantime watch some Graham Parker videos or buy some of his tracks and support this great artist!

Anyway, “Jolie Jolie” has always been one of my favorite tracks from this great album….I hope you enjoy & thanks for watching!

There’s no remedy
I just keep yearning for the sound of your voice
I don’t use teardrops as a weapon by choice
They’re just a fall out of my eyes

Keep reminding me
Every last touch is buried under my skin
Every caress keeps up the hunger within
Now I’m in a feeding frenzy of loving you
Loving you

Jolie Jolie gets my attention
Jolie Jolie don’t have to mention
I know what you want
And you know what I need
And don’t you ever forget it
Jolie Jolie Jolie Jolie

In the Mexican Quarter now
The women so hungry that they eat their own kids
I feel out of place in making takeover bids
But when you get that hungry, rock steady, yeah
And you giving all that love
Nothing so much has ever been mine before
I tried to disguise it in these words for sure
It’s just an idiot’s way of telling you
Telling you

Jolie Jolie gets my attention
Jolie Jolie don’t have to mention
I know what you want
And you know what I need
And don’t you ever forget it
Jolie Jolie

Always in the bitter end
Lovers just become good friends
Not with you I always want to go for it,
And another thing
I’m not losing any sleep
When I stay awake waiting up for you
In the end I get something to show for it
go for it,
go go go go

And there’s no remedy
I just keep yearning for the sound of your voice
I don’t use teardrops as weapons by choice
They’re just a fall out of my eyes

Jolie Jolie gets my attention
Jolie Jolie don’t have to mention
I know what you want
And you know what I need
And don’t you ever forget it
Jolie Jolie gets my attention
Jolie Jolie don’t have to mention
I know what you want
And you know what I need
And don’t you ever forget it

Oh, that’s what the little girls do

That’s What The Little Girls Do – The Knack (1979) 2011 Remaster

“That’s What The Little Girls Do” was released on The Knack’s debut album, Get The Knack, in late spring 1979. The Knack were/and remain, an extremely underrated act. When this album was released, they were blasted by some who thought they were trying to mock/imitate/whatever The Beatles….yeah, yeah, yeah…the similarities are there in the grooves, the cover art, and the way the presented themselves as a band….but damn, it was all in great fun, and they had the chops to make some really special music!

I was as huge a Beatles fan as there was, and never could understand why some were so down on this band (From Allmusic.com “critics cried “foul” when millions sold after Capitol’s pre-release hype (it went gold in 13 days and eventually sold five million copies, making it one of the most successful debuts in history”)….the second album in particular was ripped to shreds critically…and I love it every bit as much as the first!). I think that the band never fully recovered from the characterization that they had one great song and/or they were ripping off The Beatles (who wasn’t)….they had so many on every album they ever released….great power pop, rockers, and some gorgeous ballads! Anyway, I’ll get of my soapbox now, but if you didn’t listen to The Knack albums, you missed some seriously great music…it’s not too late! 😉

This is one of my favorite songs from the debut (I like them all, of course none can hold up to that MONSTER hook of “My Sharona”….very very few songs can really?!), wanted to do some The Knack, and it was hard to decide, but the theme for this one was easy.

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible…..THANK YOU!!!!

That’s what the little girls do
To you, to you
Oh, that’s what the little girls do
To you, to you

When you hold her tight
Whisper in the night
Tell her she’s the one
But you’ll never know
Why she wanna’ go and run

That’s what the little girls do
To you, to you
Oh, that’s what the little girls do
To you, to you

Does she tell you lies
Then apologize
Does she make you crawl
When you’re on your knees
Then you’re really not a man at all

That’s what the little girls do
To you, to you
Oh, that’s what the little girls do
To you, to you

And she says she’s sorry
As she looks into your eyes
But you bite your own sorrow
‘Cause she makes you pay the price

She’s the virgin queen
Dancing in your dreams
Yes she plays her part
If you let her go
She will break your ego
And your heart

That’s what the little girls do
To you, to you
Oh, that’s what the little girls do
To you, to you
Yea, that’s what the little girls do
To you, to you

It Doesn’t Work Out If You Don’t Work At It. (One more from Sir Paul and I promise to stop….for awhile….maybe!? ;-)

We Got Married – Paul McCartney (1989) HQ Audio Remaster (Full Album Version w/David Gilmour solo)

“We Got Married” was released on Paul McCartney’s eight solo album (16th if you count the Wings albums…and who was Wings, really?….so yeah, I’ll say his 16th solo album! LOL!), Flowers In The Dirt, in the late spring of 1989.

Flowers In The Dirt Upon was considered a major return to form for McCartney because he was embarking on his first world tour since the Wings Over the World tour in 1975–76. The album was also celebrated due to its musical quality, which earned McCartney some of his best reviews in years. The album gained number 1 status in the United Kingdom.

The album was moderately successful, and produced several hit singles (particularly “My Brave Face”, the last US top 40 hit by any ex-Beatle).

This album was easily the best thing Paul had done since Tug Of War, seven years earlier. It was somewhat startling to hear Paul back to such strong form when this album was released and this is still one of my favorite McCartney albums. “We Got Married” was always my favorite song on the album….does David Gilmour’s guitar solo break have anything to do with that? What do you think?! 😉

I saw Paul for the first time when he was on this tour….it was incredible. Is there anyone who consistently gives more of themselves to their fans at every single show than Paul McCartney? I doubt it.

So anyway, it’s not been a good couple of weeks for videos……I FINALLY finished my first video for a Led Zeppelin track (yeah, I hear ya guys! LOL!) and was disappointed to realize that it isn’t going to happen right now…..so I needed to find a nearly finished video to upload. I had wanted to do a video for “We Got Married” which would use the full album version of the song (the official video is nearly a minute shorter and misses some of the best bits of the song!). My original video featured some nice video clips of wedding/couples edited into the original video which I’d created new effects for, but it still had some work to do. I decided to just take out the wedding stuff and use the original video with the new effects, with a few edits to fill out the album version (and to repeat Paul and Hamish duo on the outro).

Hope you enjoy it….thanks for checking it out!

Going Fast, Coming Soon
We Made Love In The Afternoon.
Found A Flat, After That
We Got Married.

Working Hard For The Dream,
Scoring Goals For The Other Team,
Times Were Bad, We Were Glad
We Got Married.

Like The Way You Open Up Your Hearts To Each Other,
When You Find A Meeting Of The Minds.
Just As Well Love Was All We Ever Wanted,
It Was All We Ever Had.

Further On In The Game,
Waiting Up Till The Children Came.
Place Your Bets, No Regrets,
We Got Married.
We Got Married.
We Got Married.

Nowadays Every Night Flashes By
At The Speed Of Light,
Living Life, Loving Wife,
We Got Married.

I Love The Things That Happen
When We Start To Discover
Who We Are And What We’re Living For,
Just Because Love Was All We Ever Wanted
It Was All We Ever Had.

It’s Not Just A Loving Machine,
It Doesn’t Work Out
If You Don’t Work At It.

Solo Beatle 2fer! 1 from the “funny” one & 1 from the “cute” one (well…kinda)!

Lady Gaye – Ringo Starr (1976) HQ Audio HD Video

Lady Gaye” was released in the fall of 1976 on Ringo’s Rotogravure, Ringo Starr’s fifth solo album and his last to involve all his old bandmates before John Lennon’s death in 1980.

This has always been my favorite Ringo Starr album, and it still holds a special place in my memory because I used to listen to it so much when it was released…and I still do frequently today! Ringo had some other really good solo records in my opinion, Stop and Smell The Roses (1981) and, especially Time Takes Time (1992)…and most of his releases after that one, up to today, are actually quite good….but more often than not, when I listen to a Ringo album, it’s Ringo’s Rotogravure.

“Lady Gaye” is one of my favorite tracks, it’s just a really cool song, and I think a beautiful message…with a standout arrangement and great guitar solo Jesse Ed Davis. Jesse played on several George, John and Ringo solo records and his work was always special….this is my favorite solo he contributed to any of their work….tasty! 😉

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art contributed to this new art….THANK YOU!!!

…and Special HUGE THANKS to:

Lady gaye,
I know you’ll never, ever change your way,
There is no one who’s been through more than you
And still come through with love to spare,
You really care,
You lovely lady, you.

Lady gaye,
You’re really not the woman you portray,
Well, i don’t mean that disrespectfully,
For you have always shared your home
With all who’ve come to love you like i do,
To love you like i do.

It’s time that all you people turned to look,
And take a leaf out of this lady’s book.

Lady gaye,
When morning comes there’s nothing left to say,
But you have shown me what life’s all about.
It’s time to shout your praises ’round,
They’ll never knock you down,
We love you, lady gaye.

Well, it’s time to shout our praises ’round,
They’ll never knock you down,
We love you, lady gaye,
We love you, lady gaye,
We love you, lady gaye, (love you)
We love you, lady gaye, (love you)
We love you, lady gaye, (love you)
We love you, lady gaye. (love you)

(i love, i love, i love, i love, i love you,
I love, i love, i love, i love, i love you,
I love, i love, i love, i love, i love you,
I love, i love, i love, i love, i love you)

Again And Again And Again – Paul McCartney & Wings (1979) HQ Remastered Audio

“Again And Again And Again” was released in the spring of 1979 on Wings’ seventh and final studio album, Back To The Egg. It was written by and sung by Denny Laine.

Each solo Beatle record release has some strong memory for me….in the case of Back To The Egg, I remember hearing the single “Getting Closer” before the album release and thinking that we were in for a really special record.

The album itself proved to be something less than I had hoped. In addition to the album, as was often the case, I also purchased the cassette (yeah, I did more than my share to support the music!)….and it was in my car that I probably listened to this particular record the most….and I remember spending more time fast-forwarding and fast-reversing Back To The Egg, than was the case with most albums.

Really although I listened to it alot, it never seemed to stick as an album…it was just too disjointed, there was too much variation, the thing didn’t seem to fit together….and it always seemed extremely slight. Even then it seemed that the whole was somehow less than the parts that made it up? Anyway included in the bits that I never fast-forwarded through (“Getting Closer”, the two medleys, “Old Siam, Sir” and “So Glad To See You Here”) was Denny’s “Again And Again And Again”….it’s still one of my favorite track on the album.

This video was something I started quite awhile back when I was experimenting with lower resolution video and some things that might make it look better. I cleaned it up as best I could and worked in some effects that I thought would work best with this video….mainly to highlight the yellow field around the band.

Anyway, although parts of the video look pretty good, the sky (in some portions worse than others) was a problem. I was so busy experimenting with the video I didn’t realize that I actually had a slightly better quality version of this video that might have worked better, and I considered a re-do with the better quality video, but by then I was ready to move on to something else, and didn’t want to take the time to re-render and match the audio from the higher quality version….I’m sure as usual, once it’s been up awhile I’ll regret not taking the extra time to make it better! 😉 Watch it at 720p on smaller screen for best effect!

[Lyrics]

No you don’t want to be the little woman
I love. No, no, no, no. I love.
Now you don’t wanna stay in my school
You don’t wanna be the one that’s cool.
You don’t wanna be the little woman I love.

You’re up all night and we can let it hang out right. (Yeah!)
I said good-bye to all my expectations the day you walked out of my life.

Winter time is coming now
Gimme a sign if you can somehow.

Make it clear where you’re heading for
Will I see you someday at my door?

Taking it all into consideration
Love’s a game I never win.
I’ve been in very simil’r situations,
Again and again and again.

Oh, no. Now you don’t wanna be the little woman
No, you don’t want to be the little woman
I love. No, no, no, no. I love.

Now you don’t wanna stay in my home
You just wanna be on your own.
You don’t wanna be the little woman I love.
Take it away!
[guitar solo]
Ah, yeah!

Well things were fine all the summer long
Then things changed, so where did we go wrong?
We can run but we cannot hide
In the greener grass on the other side.

Taking it all into consideraton,
Love’s a game I never win.
I’ve been in very simil’r situations,
Again and again and again.

Oh no….there goes Tokyo!

Another classic from Blue Oyster Cult’s Spectres album, which was released in the winter of 1977, “Godzilla” is an prime example of the awesome guitar rock that this band was famous for. In this song, the Buck Dharma’s stun-guitar work is…..well, stunning! LOL! The song has become one of the band’s most popular songs and it a staple of their live performances.

***This was a very old video (#56) that was one of a few that had to come down for various reasons. I made some really quick edits to make it move a bit faster, but resisted a completely new video….if you remember the old one, you’ll recognize this one!

*****A quick re-edit including a few things that were bugging me…titles and album art now “running” in direction of people and fire trucks, a few more instances of the fast loops at the end of the sequence for balance, and the end titles now feature the drive-in effect as in the beginning (not that anyone watches them! LOL!)….for those curious as to the changes.

“Godzilla” is my second BOC video for a song which has been done numerous times before, but the obviousness of the match and fun that can be had in making a video, is just too hard to resist. These other versions of videos created from BOC’s “Godzilla” and the famous reptile monster of the same name, have done a fine job….but like I said, it’s just too much fun to resist…..so…..here ya go….”Godzilla”!

As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who’s art made this new art possible….THANK YOU!!!

Special thanks to Directed by Ishirō Honda’s Godzilla vs. Mothra from 1964….man, I used to love these movies!

Hope you like the effort.
